The Fire

By Daxen Adams

The fire In the middle of last summer my family and I went to the Wapiti river. The Wapiti river is located south west of Grand Prairie. We go there almost every year. Last year we built a fire on the river bank.

I built a fire with Grayson and Randal who are my cousins. Grayson is a year younger than me, Randal is the same age as my brother Seth. We also built it with Olivia and Elena who are twin girls and close friends of our family.

The first thing we did was build a ring where we wanted the fire to go. We made it out of big rock that we found on the bank closer to the water. We put the rocks in a ring around where the fire will go so it doesn’t get out of control.

Then we had two add bush fiber and wood so there was something to burn. We got the bush fiber from some weird looking driftwood that looked like a tumbleweed. There were lots of big and little sticks that we collected on the river bank. We broke them so they would fit in the fire.

We then had to convince the adults to let us light the fire. We had to do some tasks like adding more rings of rocks so people couldn’t get too close or the fire couldn’t get out of control. We also had to get some more bush fiber so we could light the fire properly. Then the adults finally agreed to lighting the fire.

I felt so very good after because we actually could have a reward for all our hard work. We could have a lit fire. It was the BEST!!!

I have many different hats that I wear. Throughout my life I have been many different things: a small business owner, problem solver, mother, friend, sister, writer, designer, employee, manager, consultant, gamer, leader and many more buzz words that I can't think of. Many of these I still do, but some I have let go to focus more on the here and now. I like to share my experiences, ideas and funny things I run across. Ask me something and I will provide an honest and likely unfiltered opinion. I am still learning about life, myself, relationships, parenting and well everything else. I am not superwoman and don't really have my life together, but I manage and am willing to share my tips and learnings. Writing for me can be cathartic and sharing makes us not feel so alone in this crazy, mess of a world we currently inhabit.
